It’s not against the rules to follow your own blog, is it? Do you follow your blog? I follow mine. Yes I do. Well, I have been for about four days now anyway. I often wondered as I was scrolling through my WordPress reader how my own blog came up to my WordPress followers. So…Click. There… I did it. The next time I posted an article’ Knowleselle’ came up in my reader. How cool is that? Makes me feel a little bit ‘out there’.
Following my own blog gives me a little insight as to how I am perceived by my followers. Now I know the importance of the use of titles and pictures to keep my readers interested. Your picture and title need to scream “READ ME! – READ ME FIRST!’. Of course, the content is important – probably the most important part. Surely I’m not the only one that clicks on the picture or title that ‘pops‘ first as I scroll. Though you may be one of those organized people who scroll, stop, click, and read in order each blog in your reader in a very controlled manner? Not me! Helter-skelter – click on the most colorful pictures and amusing or far out titles. 🙂
Of course, you should not mislead anyone. Make sure your title and picture actually relate to the post. Don’t add just any old thing to catch your readers eye and then lead them into a post of a different dimension. That wouldn’t be fair and would probably lose you a lot of your audience.
I must admit that I am still in the learning stage in this fabulous world of blogging. I may be wrong on this whole following thing and how to present your blog to others. My thoughts on this is that if it works for me – it can’t be all wrong! I started the blog to promote my first book, ‘Crossing The Line’ and then fell in love with the whole process. Now if I can only figure out how to make that featured image show up on my Facebook post every time! Any suggestions? Come on – you know what I’m talking about.
This is a passing thought I had this morning while I was supposed to be working on my actual ‘paying’ job. This blogging is just so much more fun though isn’t is? 😉 My mind is very easily distracted and that proves my point.
Do you follow your blog?
Elle
Elle, I’ve always been curious about how others find my blog and how it appears in the Reader, but the thought of following my own blog never occurred to me. Now you’ve gone and planted ideas!

Most of the blogs I follow I have found through other bloggers. Take yours for instance – the gravitars from your likes or from your comments If clicked on I am taken to their blog site and sometimes it’s a winner becoming another blog I will follow. I have found a few through freshly pressed but the majority are through blogs I follow. I don’t remember how I found you, but I’m glad I did! BTW – can tell you’ve been busy again. More dinner parties? 😊

I don’t currently follow my own blog–but it’s a great idea. As soon as I get finished writing this comment I think that I’m going to become a follower. 🙂

Yep, I proudly do. And I browse my reader just like you, whatever catches my eye. Hence the word “follow” followed by a pic of the yellow brick road, and I’m yours 🙂 The facebook thing however is still flummoxing me too. If you find out…blog about it!

Yes, those colorful pics will get you every time! I just noticed the title of your book and went to Amazon and purchased. I’m a sewer and just changed my feed dogs. 😉 I also have a niece in fashion design. Your book is now on my kindle to be read.
