Shhhh……It’s A Secret ;)

Have you all noticed lately the frequent post on Facebook (that social media that we all use to keep up with the Jones  ;)) from your friends, “Things You May Not Know About Me”?  From what I can figure out is that you are assigned a number and you have to post that many things that others may not know about you. Thankfully no one has blessed me with that feat! I wonder as I read all of these post if there are items not listed that are being kept a secret and items listed that probably should be should be kept a secret. ;)You know…things like:

•  I’m the crazy one in the family.  – The reason I know is that I often wonder who it is. You know the line – If you don’t know who it is it is probably you! This should probably be kept a secret.
• I cheated on my ACT’s making a very high score. – Well, I often wondered how you got into that top school and then put on academic probation more than once. Anyway we all know it is almost impossible to cheat on your ACT test, isn’t it?
• (blank) is my fourth husband. My three previous husbands died of mysterious causes.  – Hummm? This should really not be advertised. What do you think? Not if she wants to get a fifth which is the looks of this situation! hahaha
• I really come from royalty and am a princess in my country. –  Yeah right! Then why are you living like you do, never knowing when your husband will be working or if the kids will have a decent meal on the table or warm clothes to wear?
• My uncle so-and-so was a serial killer and spent the last 47 years of his life in prison. – Not something to boast about!

Please remember this list is fictitious!  It could go on and on if you have a good imagination and a sense of humor. But what about those things we don’t hear about that are good and would actually put a star in your crown, such as:

• Every Thanksgiving my husband and three young children work at a soup kitchen handing out meals for the less fortunate instead of spending our day at home with family watching football on TV, playing and squabbling with our cousins and  eating too much, while leaving enough on our plates to feed a family of four.
• Three mornings a week I volunteer at a retirement home, assisting the elderly with learning to accomplish something they have always wanted to learn, i.e. sewing, knitting, computer skills.
• At Christmas time our family donates gifts to needy families anonymously.
• I am helping to put a needy child through college.
• I organized a drive to collect warm blankets, food and money for medical supplies for the animal shelter in town.

I’m sorry but these points are fictitious also, though I would love to be able to do even one of them to make my life complete! These are the accomplishments that we don’t hear of – the ones that boast of the good there is in each of us. And this is as it should be because sometimes more is expected of us if all know what we actually are made of. Sometimes its not so nice to “toot your own horn”.

I’m just waiting for someone to throw that Facebook post my way making me dig deep to list a certain number of items that “you may not know about me”. My life is pretty much an open book now that I have written ‘Crossing The Line’ and this blog that I love, love, love doing hasn’t kept many secrets. Social media has lured me in, making it hard to not post my feelings or what is going on in my life at least once a day. Granted, I keep my personal Facebook account and my author and ‘Crossing‘ Facebook accounts separate. For my  personal Facebook friends they are mostly intertwined, but you have to draw a line somewhere.

So…here it goes…A few things you may not know about me:

• I homesteaded in Alaska with my parents and four siblings for five years starting at the age of four. I plan to publish my mothers letters and the adventures we had one day soon. I can say now it was one of the greatest experiences of my life – even if we did have an outhouse! Uggh!
• I have an Etsy shop. You know what that is don’t you?  It’s called pillowpods. I make zippered pillow covers from all the fabrics I have acquired over the years, trying to use up some of that stash and make a little money to boot! I haven’t pushed it through social media much and my sales would probably be greater if I did, especially during the Holiday season.
• My sister, Debbie, and I are running a close race for the winner of ‘whoever has the most fabric when she dies wins’! Wins what? And at that point whatever the prize is will be useless. I think I may let her win this one.

See, my life is really not that exciting. Maybe this will keep people happy and I won’t get that inquisition post to tell all through “Things you may not know about me”. I guess I could refer everyone to this blog post and be done with it – or just ignore it.
