ETIQUETTE IN SOCIAL MEDIA – 4 BLOGGING FACTS I RECENTLY REALIZED KEEPS MY FOLLOWERS HAPPY

When was the last time you tapped on a share button under a post you enjoyed reading? How fast do you respond to comments on your site? Do you follow back or LIKE on Facebook?

 

1. I just recently realized how important those share button are at the bottom of each post. You know the ones I’m talking about don’t you? Twitter – Google – Facebook – Pinterest- the list goes on an and on. Comments and likes are great to receive, but if someone shares your content on another site such as these more and more traffic is led to your site. Just tap on that button and Volia! Your tweet or Facebook share or whatever you tapped on is on its way to the source with your site or name attached!
2. Another important fact is how fast you respond to a comment or like on your site. Yes, we are all busy and time is short. If you are going to put something out there and have comments open, then you should respond to those comments in a timely manner. I would say within 24 hours if possible. It’s the polite thing to do. With today’s technology, most of us have WordPress apps on our phones that allow us to do just that. I’ve commented on articles before, and I do so often I forget on what site and what I’ve commented. Then – SURPRISE – someone comments back to me two weeks or so later and I have to go back to the original article to see what it is I’m being thanked for or what in the world they are talking about. Don’t let this happen to your commenters.
3. If someone follows you or likes your page on any social media, return the favor. It doesn’t take much time to visit their site, look around some, leave a comment and follow or like a page. Think how much it means to you when you get that new follower on WordPress or Twitter and that LIKE on Facebook. You may actually find a WordPress site or Facebook page that interests you. You will never know until you try.
4. Visit other sites you follow as often as you can. Don’t sit back and wait for them to come to you. If you fall back from visiting and commenting on other sites, you site could also be less visited. You don’t have to read every post on every site every time one pops up in your reader, but do make an appearance a few times a month at least. The more you comment and like on other sites, the more traffic will flow to yours.  Your Gravatar picture next to any comments or in the like line is there for a reason. I have found many good sites I now follow and have made some good friends by tapping on that Gravatar.

These are just a few facts that make up social media etiquette. It doesn’t take much time to be polite and it may get you more support through social media. Are there any tips you would like to share?
