How To Quickly Hang Clothing

How To Quickly Hang Clothing

There’s actually an art to hanging clothing that’s only useful if you are hanging numbered items. This worked well in the case of hanging H’s band uniforms this morning.

I didn’t want to be here. It was a Saturday for goodness sake! I wanted to sleep past 5:30 am. I needed to sleep past 5:30 am!

I wanted to eat a leisurely  breakfast and linger over my newspaper in peace. I wanted to scroll through Facebook catching up on my friends last week endeavors and mishaps. I wanted to correct my formatting and write on Alaska.

We don’t always get what we want and that is why I’m here. By myself. Hanging uniforms.

Not entirely by myself. H is working with his trombones. Ana has a clarinet clinic going strong and Andrew is holding a percussion clinic. All this is taking place because FBA Concert Festival is around the corner.

But I’m the only one hanging uniforms after they came back from the cleaners and I don’t even have a kid in band! Where are these band parents who need to be involved with the program? I’ll tell you where they are. Sleeping late. Lingering over breakfast and their newspaper. Catching up on Facebook. Planning a weekend of fun!

This is only an observation, but I would be a wealthy woman if I was paid by the hour or even paid at all,  with the time I put in helping out. Add V to that list!

When hanging numbered items and before you go crazy with the jumbled numbers of jackets, pants, and bags, do this to save your sanity or in my case, what’s left of it.

  • Put all the jackets in order by marking the number from the inside collar on the paper of the hanger from the cleaners. It proved too time consuming to have to lift that hanger to look at each jacket number each time I had a bag to fill.
  • Put the pants in order by number. These numbers you could see easier – after I removed the cleaning tag that was safety pinned to each one on top of the number!
  • Put numbered bags in order.

Now I have LOTS of safety pins. Let me know if you need some.

I realized only  one uniform set had numbers to match. After so many years of use this is the way it always works out. It would be a lot easier if they all matched.

I picked up a bag, noting the bag number, went to my list, and pulled out the jacket with that number and the pants with the number that belonged to it. Now they had their rightful place – I hoped.

This went on for an hour and a half and I ended up with one uniform and one bag left over that belonged to no one. I also had two students with no bag and no uniform and these two students just happened to be here for the percussion clinic today. After I got through with them they probably wished they had stayed home – or brought back their uniform when told to do so weeks ago!

I sent this text to the band parent treasurer venting my sorrows. Got no response. No one feels sorry for me but myself! 😞

When they all get dressed Friday for the concert we will find out if I matched everything back up in the correct manner.

Also,  if there is a funny smell on the bus, we will know which two students to point our fingers at.

I am thankful for lazy students and their parents because it makes for a good ranting post!

Wow that’s a tough way to spend a morning. Especially that early a morning on a weekend. You are too good. Now go pamper yourself!

  3. I would never have the patience for that nonsense. Never! I’m sure there are a lot of grateful band parents. Or at least tell yourself that there are. It will make you feel better.

  4. At least you found time to write this essay. You are very much needed by many, many people and that must feel great on some level, BUT…I do get wanting to sleep, write, and just be faithful to oneself. The only way for that to happen is if you set some boundaries, and believe me, it’s not easy. Plus, no one in your life will be very happy about it, however…they would adjust. You heard it here first. 🙂
