First Impressions

First Impressions

Way back in January,  Andrew called us, with excitement in his voice. He had just received confirmation from Tapspace, that they would be publishing a marimba piece,  he had composed and sent to them.

From there it was a long process of editing, arranging for a  good friend to play and record the piece, proofing, and finally, giving the okay to publish.

In July, his first piece, First Impressions, was published with TapSpace, and last week he received his first royalty check. So now he’s making very little money – but the point is – he’s a published composer!

When he showed me the difference of what Tapspace hauls in, compared to his percentage, I told him he was on the wrong end of that deal. He agreed with me, but is up to the challenge of continuing on with this journey of composing, and getting published with bigger and better music publishing houses.

You can find First Impressions on Tapspace under his name, Andrew Patzig, or through this link. click on the tab, shared recording, and you can see and hear his friend, Robbie, playing it. You can also follow this link, to see and hear Andrew playing the piece.

So if any of you have a marimba lying around your house, gathering dust, now’s the time to get some first-rate music from an up-and-coming, new composer, to play!

We are very proud…

  1. Congrats and kudos to your son and to you for your unflagging support. It takes great courage to be any kind of artist in our current culture. And marimba music is SO cool 🙂

      • Rightly so. As the mom of a marimba musician myself, I’m truly happy for you and your family. I know how hard they work at their craft for very little compensation.
My son told me yesterday that the classical music industry is concerned about the election results because the arts relies heavily on donations, and Trump is not one to encourage not-for-profits. So they need all the encouragement from us they can get.

        • Hopefully, when he gets in office he will figure out the right thing to do for ALL the people!
Little compensation is right! He’s doing his internship right now for no compensation. Seems they would give him a break on tuition if nothing else! Going to Tennessee for grad school in January.
