Is that a bear in my backyard…

Is that a bear in my backyard…

We live Florida – in the city limits – in a nice neighborhood. We have more wildlife in our yard than my daughter who lives in the middle of the woods in Louisiana!

Our newest visitor is a raccoon who thinks he’s a pet. He shows up at the cat food bowl about 5:30 every evening. When you open the door he scurries under the car to wait until he feels it’s safe to return to the food bowl. We can sit three feet away from him and watch him eat. He made a few appearances when the grandchildren were visiting last week. Pierson who is 20 months called him “Cat”. We call him Fred.

Hide and seek!

A little washing up before the meal!

Pierson waiting for “Cat”.

Later in the evening, the possum sometimes shows up for his turn at the feeding trough. He’s a little scary. I stay far away from him!

He gets the leftovers.

The box turtles show up every day – morning, noon, and night, especially when it rains. They are my favorite.

Bath time!

Sometimes the water turtles lumber up the the back yard to lay their eggs. We have to keep watch on the nests so the crows don’t raid them.

If you look closely you can see the eggs. A crow was after them so we covered it back up. Hope they survive.

We also have to check under the vehicles before leaving the house to make sure there are no turtles taking a siesta.

Just through our back gate is the creek and a park. There are red sliders, yellow sliders, and alligator snapping turtles. Feeding the turtles is a treat for us daily. It also occupies little minds.

A walk to the park to feed the turtles.

Last week we caught sight of a fox taking a shortcut through the yard to heaven knows where! I’m glad he didn’t decide to stop in for a bite to eat. He made himself very comfortable though!

Even the ants get into the act!

Foster Kitty is a pretty good sport. He usually shares his bounty with whatever wildlife shows up.

Patiently waiting his turn!

I’m waiting for a bear to show up one day. They have been spotted in surrounding neighborhoods a few times. Let’s hope not!

These boots aren’t made for walking…

Nike pulled the plug on a pair of shoes featuring the Betsy Ross flag that offended one man and in return, Nike offended many.

What’s the world coming to when a pair of shoes is the offender?

Now here are some offensive shoes! On the other hand – maybe they are just weird.

Never leave home without a spare pair of choppers!

When you want smelly feet…

I’d be slapping that hand away all day!
