What I’ve learned during the lockdown and other strange things

I’ve always been a homebody, but after having no choice but to stay at home, I’ve learned that I miss being able to come and go as I please – go being the operative word.

I’ve learned to order groceries online and pick them up. What are all those people doing in Walmart? The parking lot is full and the cars are empty. They must be shopping. It’s crazy!

I’ve learned to order necessities from Amazon – things I would usually just pick up at the dollar store or on a whim while out shopping. Last week I ordered Cricut supplies. Now if I could just find time for crafting.

I’ve learned to order clothing from Old Navy. They were having a super sale two weeks ago. I’m still waiting patiently for my order to ship. I know they are probably backlogged. It’s not like I have anywhere to go to have to dress for!

I’ve learned there is not enough toilet paper or hand sanitizer in this town for every household. Luckily, I have the first item. I can’t put my hands – pun intended – on the second item.

I’ve learned to adjust to the gray – no, silver, because it sounds much more elegant – streaks showing in my hair. I’m thinking about leaving it like this. I even ordered – online, of course – some silver wax to blend it in. Don’t tell H. He hasn’t noticed yet. I could use a haircut though.

Speaking of H – my living room has turned into a music studio. I’ve learned to use Zoom so he can continue teaching music lessons. I scheduled recurring lessons with each student and sent them an email. He just has to be there and click – START MEETING at the right moment. Of course his student has to also show up on the other side, and that doesn’t always happen. H isn’t enjoying this one bit, but it keeps him busy for 20 one-half hour lessons a week.

I’ve learned I really don’t like to cook and we were eating out way more than we realized. Last night H had bacon and frozen waffles for supper. I had toast and bacon. I think we have both lost our appetites. And…we have just about missed most of crawfish season and haven’t yet had the first raw oysters of the season. After April we will have to wait until September for some oysters.

I’ve learned my car will run on a tank of gas for three months. I just wish the gas prices would stay down when all this is over. If I only had a tank in my backyard I could fill up for later use. We will never see $1.57 a gallon again…

I’ve learned to be more patient and take this all in stride. I can see time slowing down and people being nicer and more polite to one another. On the rare occasion I’ve had to venture out to the grocery store, the aisles are not crowded – not at Walmart, I don’t go there – and the shelves in paper goods are bare, but if someone is coming toward you with a buggy, they quickly move over and nod, not wanting to get too close.

In all this turmoil, I’ve learned some useful thing to keep my mind occupied. I really spend too much time on Facebook. Did you know when you type the year you were ten-years-old into the gift bar you can see what was popular that year? Mary Poppins was popular when I was ten.

Also, this new activity, I’ve learnedmay keep you and your significant other amused for a few minutes. It has definitely amused my grown children. They are just giddy from having kids underfoot all day everyday. It doesn’t take much to entertain them.

You can see an animal in your house if you Google search an animal name (on iPhone or android) and then press ‘View in 3D’. It opens your camera and soon will show you the animal moving in your room. You can walk around it and take a picture of it with people. Look for :
Emperor penguin
Angler fish
Brown bear
Shetland pony

Look who showed up for breakfast this morning!

H is turkey hunting this morning – I guess it’s safe to do that. I can’t get the picture of a turkey to work like this. If I could, I would send him a picture of one in our living room, because he hasn’t had much luck this season! 🤣

If you find yourself with a little reading time on your hands you can find my books here.

Stay safe everyone! Send me a pic of who showed up for breakfast at your house…
