These stories usually start out as “I’m thankful for…” Well, I am thankful for…but let’s do this a bit differently.
Last year we decided to start a new, but not-so-new, tradition for Thanksgiving and have the whole family together again for the holiday – kids, parents, pets, cousins, significant others – yep they were all invited. Thankfully, no extra pets showed up, but we did have an uninvited guest of a nasty stomach bug that made the rounds. Pets would probably have been better received.
When children grow up, get married, and have families of their own, they tend to go off in every imaginable direction. I decided it was time to make a change of celebrating together every other year to accommodate extended families, and knowing my house was evidently too small to hold the crew, Jessie and Davey were elected to host the event. It was perfect since Kerri also lived right down the street giving us two places to house everyone.
This year being the ‘other’ year, I realized it would be only H, Andrew, and myself to sit down to that turkey dinner. Let’s face it – we just aren’t that lively a crew when we are a threesome.
H and Andrew usually hunt in the morning – while I cook.
Or…H watches TV and Andrew sleeps – while I cook.
I’m not real fond of being the chief cook and bottle washer, though H always gives me a hand cleaning up afterwards. You know how it is when you cook a big meal with all the trimmings – your appetite leaves as you sit down at the table. All that fuss for so little reward!
So I am so exited and ‘thankful’ to have my sister, Tish and her family coming to celebrate Thanksgiving with us. Help with cooking. Help with cleaning. A much livelier crew, I’m sure! And Andrew will have a cousin to share his Turkey Day with, though I’m sure they’re both over that by now.
I’m also hoping Herbie can fix my cuckoo clock to play music again because we really need another clock going off in this house!

Happy Thanksgiving;
For business reasons, we missed the larger family gathering this year. That happens, but sets us up well for the Christmas gathering.
My wife no longer cooks the turkey. Hasn’t for the past 6? year. Instead, I smoke it outside. The taste is always superb!
May the spirits of the season be with you.

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! My dad always smoked our turkeys and I miss that a lot. My mother, on the other hand, was partial to baked. ~Elle

First let me say how much I love the images of family…you and your kids, granddkids. The line about you H and A sitting there alone with nothing to say made me laugh. I could hear the cutlery taking center stage.
My grandparents had a cuckoo clock, the kind with the long cord you’d wind it with. One year over some holiday Fluffy the cat decided to pull it, and the whole thing came down. We got it back up, but it never cuckooed again.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and thanks in between cleaning, stuffing, baking and feeding you managed to pen a piece.

Holidays are meant to be spent with family – lots of talkative family. You would think this threesome would have more to talk about! As for that cuckoo clock, the music hasn’t played in years because the chain came off the track. It has no problem cuckooing, but is usually turned off because Cadence is scared of it when she is here and it annoys Andrew. Since he has to sleep on the sofa when home this time I guess I’ll keep it off until he goes back to Troy~Elle

Funny….. I’m thankful that i don’t have 19 people to feed this year! Lol! It was actually really fun even with 11 of us getting a stomach virus. Can’t wait to do it again next year!

And next year they will all be older and be able to help more! Right? And remember, we’ve decided my house is too small!
